Sausage tasting goes with a bang
More than 200 guests attended a blind sausage tasting at The Bellstone, in Shrewsbury, to compare rare breed pork sausages with some supermarket bangers.
The event, organised by local rare breed pork producer Gwen Howell of Pigs In Clover, saw tasters sample eight different sausages, six of which were rare breed pork, one was a supermarket’s own economy brand and one was a mid-priced nationally available brand.
Gwen says the supermarket sausages were easily picked out of the bunch.
“I am so pleased that the night was such a success’ said Gwen of Pigs in Clover. ‘We wanted to prove a point, that sausages made from premium rare breed pork taste fantastic, and by choosing to eat meat from our endangered native breeds, you not only eat well, but you’re also helping to save these breeds from extinction.”
Over £200 was raised for the Rare Breeds Survival Trust.
In the restaurant, the chefs had created special sausage meals, using rare breed Tamworth pork and the Bellstone’s James Cox selected a range of complementary local beers and ciders.
