Taste of spring in Shrewsbury
With the earliest of the spring lamb now on sale, shoppers in Shrewsbury are being encouraged to pop along to The Market Hall and celebrate some of Shropshire’s finest local produce.
Food lovers seeking their first bite of the highly prized lamb can purchase it from John Bliss and W D Butchers at The Market Hall, both open Tuesday to Saturday each week.
“Spring lambs are slaughtered just after being weaned from their mums - ranging in age from 3-5 months, the meat is paler in colour with a milder taste compared to lambs slaughtered later in life,” explained John Williams, owner of John Bliss.
Kate Gittins, Market Hall site facilities manager, said: “Spring lamb is one of the UK’s most famed pieces of meat and I am delighted to see it on sale at The Market Hall.
“Our butchers are experts in the field and will be sure to give you advice on serving and cooking their meats should you need it,” added Kate.
As well as spring lamb, Willie Dodd, owner of W D Butchers is selling free-range pork reared in Shawbury - only five miles from Shrewsbury. Commenting, he said: “It is very important to me that the food I sell originates from nearby. Increasingly customers want to know where their food began its life; local butchers have this information and it is vital to our trade’s success.”
The Market Hall has an eclectic range of food stores including Hopesay Glebe Farm which sells organic fruit and vegetables, making it possible to purchase everything you need to serve a delicious meal in just one shop!
