Getting hairy in the kitchen

Hairy Bikers, Simon King and David Myers are looking forward to appearing at the Summer Good Food Show at the NEC Birmingham in June. They will also be cooking up some treats at the Shrewsbury Flower Show in August. Shropshire Kitchen caught up with them before the big event.

Any ideas on what you’ll be cooking at the NEC yet?

Yes we will be cooking something for everybody, nice summer suppers, some spicy and some comforting.  We are cooking Thai sea bass fishcakes with a honey and cucumber dipping sauce, Salmon fishcakes with Hollandaise sauce and Asparagus and Duck Tikka wraps, with raita and salad.

What do you enjoy most about cooking live?

It is the opportunity to meet the people who watch you on the telly and make them hungry.

It must be great to meet your fans at the shows? Have you had any strange requests?

Yes, one lady wanted to put us in a paddling pool full of gravy and have us gravy wrestling.

Mum’s Knows Best has just been on our screens, looking back what was your favourite recipe to come out of this series?

Any of the curries in the programme are particular favorites as they are all well used authentic recipes that are easy and used on a daily basis, they are mega.

Can we expect another series of Mum Knows Best?

Yes we are trying to sort out filming dates at the moment.

With the focus on mums in Mums Knows Best what do you think makes the perfect foodie treat for mums?

It has to be breakfast in bed preferably cooked inexpertly by a child with a lot of love.

What TV projects do you have coming up?

After the stage show, more Mums know Best then we want to do some more filming abroad again, we are ready for an adventure.

You’ve known each other for years but with so much time being spent together working do you tend to socialise together?

Yes absolutely, we are best mates and both our partners are close friends too. We are trying to plan some fishing trips together.

Where will your travels be taking you next?

Next one for work around the UK, for pleasure Si is off to the West Coast of America and Dave is off to Thailand to eat himself stupid. We would like to do some filming in Europe, which is something that we have never done.
